Kofi Josephs
Basketball player from Britain who has played professional sports until 31 years old
Kofi explains his passion through personal experience: He remembers living in Henley on Thames where cars would drive past and his middle-class friends would question why he was staring at cars, but "where I'm from there's drive-bys that happen or cars from other sides of town jump out and there's like issues immediately." His friends didn't understand this was "PTSD" and "you're almost in a Perpetual state of fight or flight but you don't realize it because that now becomes your Baseline."
He used to sleep hearing helicopters and police activity and thought it was normal, but in Henley there were "no helicopters no police cars no shootings no cars speeding nothing and it was actually too silent for me at first."

He states: "in certain communities you just don't realize your mental health what's actually going on so I want to be a part of the change that I would like to see."
Why Not I is now a community interest company where he's doing a lot of stuff for community groups and using grants to help groups of people that need it, all in the name of mental health because "mental health is such a taboo and we're here to like destigmatize it."
